Consul Bragagni congratulates Liberal Democrats on their succesful conference

This year’s annual conference of the Liberal Democrats was held in Bournemouth from September 20th to 23rd, 2025. On this occasion, Consul Maurizio Braggani, OBE, wrote a congratulatory letter to the Right Honourable Ed Davey MP, Leader of the party.

The Conference has once again provided a clear view of the party’s priorities and sense of direction. Party leader The Rt Hon Ed Davey MP’s keynote speech set the tone, emphasising not only policies but also the values of choice, care, and vision for Britain’s future.

A central theme of the speech was the need to guard against the growing influence of populism, framed with references to both domestic and international figures. In doing so, the Liberal Democrats sought to position themselves as a steady alternative, rooted in democratic traditions and liberal values.

The conference also highlighted a series of policy goals, from ambitions to halve energy bills and remove trade barriers to improving cancer care and giving greater recognition to carers. These commitments were framed as practical steps toward strengthening communities and supporting public services. Taken together, they reflected a strategy of offering clarity and resonance, appealing to those seeking constructive solutions in uncertain times.

International concerns featured prominently as well. Delegates reaffirmed support for Ukraine, underlined the importance of upholding international law in ongoing conflicts, and called for vigilance against the growing power of global tech platforms in shaping democratic debate. In balancing domestic priorities with a commitment to wider global responsibilities, the Liberal Democrats sought to project both confidence and readiness, thus positioning themselves as a party prepared to engage thoughtfully with the challenges of tomorrow.
