San Marino offers Civil Registry access to citizens residing abroad

The Republic of San Marino has officially launched a new online service for requesting Civil Registry and Civil Status certificates, offering a more streamlined experience for citizens, particularly those residing abroad.

The new system, managed through the IOL – Istanze OnLine platform, allows citizens to remotely request essential documentation, including birth, marriage, residence, and citizenship certificates.

How to Access the Service

To begin using the digital service, citizens must first complete their registration on the San Marino Public Administration Portal. Once their identity is verified, applicants can access the IOL portal to request a wide variety of certificates directly.

Please consult the information on our the dedicated page on “Consular Services” section.

Important Considerations

While this digital shift offers significant convenience, citizens should note that the IOL platform is not currently equipped to handle legalisation or Apostille procedures. For documents requiring these specific certifications, citizens must continue to submit their request via the portal and then collect the paper certificate in person from the Civil Status, Demographic and Electoral Services Office to complete the final steps.

For any technical assistance or further guidance, citizens are encouraged to contact the Department of Foreign Affairs at assistenza.consolare@esteri.sm.
