San Marino at the 2026 EBRD Annual Meeting and Business Forum in Riga

A delegation, headed by the Consul & EBRD Alternate Governor for San Marino, Prof Maurizio Bragagni OBE, was honoured to participate  in the 35th Annual Meeting and Business Forum of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The meeting was held in Riga, from 5-7 June 2026, and gathered over 2,000 representatives from governments, international institutions, and the global business community.

The EBRD Annual Meeting offered a valuable opportunity to engage with the President of the EBRD, Ms Odile Renaud-Basso, senior Bank officials, and fellow governors from a wide range of countries. These interactions allowed for meaningful discussions and reflections on the EBRD’s distinctive role as a trusted partner in promoting dialogue and cooperation across its regions of operation.

Such exchanges reaffirmed the importance of maintaining open and constructive engagement among nations and institutions, particularly at a time characterised by rapid change and heightened uncertainty.

In his intervention, Alternate Governor Bragagni mentioned:Never in human history have ordinary people seen such an improvement in living standards as during the past 80 years. This progress has been driven by free enterprise, democracy, innovation and the rule of law.

These principles remain fundamental. They underpin not only the work of the EBRD, but also the broader international framework aimed at fostering prosperity and stability.

Free markets and democracy continue to represent the most effective engines of economic and social advancement. The EBRD’s commitment to these values, particularly in the current global context, is essential for ensuring sustainable growth and shared progress.

A significant part of the discussions in Riga focused on Ukraine’s economic resilience and future reconstruction, a matter of common concern for the international community. During the side event “Charting the Path to Ukraine’s Reconstruction”, it was highlighted the scale of the challenges ahead and the importance of coordinated international efforts.

The EBRD’s leadership in mobilising resources and supporting Ukraine’s recovery demonstrates a strong commitment to solidarity and collective responsibility. These efforts are both timely and indispensable for ensuring long-term stability in the region.

The 2026 Annual Meeting in Riga provided a valuable opportunity to reflect on the evolving role of the EBRD and the importance of its mission.

It confirmed the Bank’s position as a trusted and effective partner in promoting economic development, institutional strength and international cooperation, while advancing the values of openness, resilience and inclusivity.

San Marino reaffirms its commitment to these principles and looks forward to continuing its engagement with the EBRD and the wider international community in support of sustainable and shared prosperity.
