The Rotary Club of the City of London convened its latest luncheon on 21 April 2026 at the Guildhall, bringing together members and distinguished guests for a timely discussion on international trade, civic leadership, and public service.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof Maurizio Bragagni OBE, Honorary Consul of the Republic of San Marino to the United Kingdom, who spoke on the theme “Navigating Global Free Trade.”
In his remarks, Consul Bragagni examined the evolving landscape of international commerce, outlining both the opportunities and complexities facing governments and businesses in an increasingly interconnected global economy.
He emphasised the importance of resilient trade relationships, enhanced regulatory cooperation, and the valuable contribution that small states such as San Marino can make to broader economic dialogue.
Drawing on extensive experience in international business and diplomacy, he highlighted how agile policy frameworks and effective cross-border collaboration can underpin sustainable growth. He also underscored the importance of continued dialogue between public institutions, private enterprise, and civic organisations such as the Rotary Club in shaping practical responses to global economic challenges.
The luncheon was chaired by the President of the Club, Onur Engin, who welcomed attendees and introduced the speaker, noting the importance of engaging with diverse international perspectives on trade and cooperation.
The event also marked a significant milestone for the Club with the induction of two distinguished new members: Consul Bragagni and David Sales, Common Councilman representing Aldgate Ward in the City of London. Their inclusion reflects the Club’s ongoing commitment to fostering engagement across diplomacy, governance, and civic life.
The meeting concluded with informal discussions among members and guests, reinforcing Rotary’s longstanding tradition of fellowship and the exchange of ideas in support of community engagement and international understanding.
