It is with particular pride that the Consulate shares the news that Arthur, the Labrador Retriever belonging to Consul Prof. Maurizio Bragagni OBE, will compete at Crufts 2026, the world’s most celebrated dog show, held from 5 to 8 March at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham. Each year, this extraordinary event welcomes more than 20,000 dogs from across the globe, bringing together the finest examples of canine breeding, training, and dedication.
Arthur arrives in Birmingham with an impressive competitive record. Among his achievements are the Young Italian Beauty Champion (JCAC) title, Best of Breed (BOB) victories in Tuscany and Piacenza, and, most recently, the title of Champion of San Marino. These honours reflect not only Arthur’s outstanding qualities as a Labrador Retriever, but also the commitment and professionalism that have guided his development.

At Crufts, Arthur will compete within the Gundog group, whose judging will take place on Sunday, 8 March, with the opportunity to advance to the prestigious Best in Show final. Participation in Crufts represents a significant milestone for any competitor, as entry is strictly limited to dogs that have achieved notable success in recognised competitions.
Accompanying Arthur to Birmingham will be il Console Bragagni e Marco Burattini, Arthur’s expert trainer. Mr Burattini’s guidance has been instrumental in Arthur’s preparation and competitive success, and his presence at Crufts reflects the careful training and dedication that have characterised Arthur’s journey to this international stage.
Now in its 135th year, Crufts remains the most prestigious conformation show in the canine world. Dogs are judged according to the standards established by The Royal Kennel Club, which evaluate ideal breed characteristics, temperament, structure, and overall condition. Arthur’s qualification, earned through victories in recognised competitions across Italy and San Marino, confirms his exceptional conformity to these demanding standards.
Arthur’s participation represents not only a personal achievement but also a moment of pride for the community surrounding the Consulate and for all those who appreciate excellence in breeding, training, and international competition. As he enters the ring at Crufts, Arthur carries with him the spirit of dedication and distinction that characterises the Republic of San Marino.
