Consul, Prof Maurizio Bragagni OBE, attended the annual diplomatic reception hosted by The Rt Hon Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP, Speaker of the House of Commons, at the Speaker’s House on 28 January 2026. This annual event represents a significant element of the United Kingdom’s parliamentary diplomacy, bringing together members of Parliament and representatives of the diplomatic corps to strengthen dialogue and international cooperation.

The reception provided an important opportunity for engagement with Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and diplomatic representatives accredited to the United Kingdom, allowing for the exchange of views on bilateral relations, international developments, and the role of parliamentary institutions in supporting diplomacy and mutual understanding.

In his address, Sir Lindsay Hoyle paid tribute to the diplomatic community, commending diplomats for their dedication and hard work in maintaining peace, fostering dialogue, and promoting cooperation among nations in an increasingly complex global environment. He emphasised the importance of sustained engagement between parliaments and the diplomatic corps as a means of reinforcing democratic values and international stability.

The Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in London, His Excellency Ivan Romero Martinez, the Ambassador of Honduras to the United Kingdom, echoed these remarks, highlighting the essential role of parliamentary diplomacy in complementing traditional diplomatic efforts. The Dean underlined the responsibility of diplomats to promote dialogue and understanding in a troubled international context, stressing the importance of cooperation between legislative institutions and diplomatic missions.
Consul Bragagni’s participation reaffirmed the commitment to maintaining constructive relations between San Marino and the United Kingdom and to supporting initiatives that enhance dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect between nations. Events such as the Speaker’s diplomatic reception continue to serve as valuable platforms for strengthening institutional ties and advancing shared diplomatic objectives.
