The Order was reformed by decrees of 15 September 1923 and 9 June 1925.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">It is named after Saint Agatha, patron of the Republic, on whose feast day of the 5th of February, Pope Clement XII re-established the sovereignty of the Republic in 1740.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">It is an Order of merit awarded to foreign nationals who have positively contributed charitable and other services either for outstanding civil or military services to the Republic or for humanitarian, artistic, political or sporting accomplishments.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">L'Ordine Equestre di Sant'Agata \u00e8 conferito dal Consiglio Grande e Generale su proposta dell'Eccellentissima Reggenza della Repubblica di San Marino. She was then rolled over sharp stones and burning coals and finally taken to prison where she died while praying. As well she is the patron of bell founders; breast cancer; breast disease; firefighters; earthquakes; eruptions of Mount Etna; fire prevention; jewellers; martyrs; nurses; rape victims; single laywomen; sterility; torture victims; volcanic eruptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Saint Agatha\u2019s Day, people are encouraged to do:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bake an Agatha loaf! On St. Agatha&#8217;s feast day, people would bake loaves attached to a picture of St. Agatha and prayers for protection from fires. The parish priests would bless the loaves, and people would keep them in their homes in case of a poor harvest and famine. The prayers would then be hung above the main door of each home to invoke St. Agatha&#8217;s guardianship.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>La tradizione spagnola associa questo giorno di festa ad antiche usanze di fertilit\u00e0. Giovanni Battista Montini<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: inherit;background-color: initial;color: #515151\"> fu insignito del titolo di Grande Ufficiale dell'Ordine Equestre di Sant'Agata.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-e634e0f8 gb-headline-text\">Montini ebbe un ruolo importante nella pianificazione del\u00a0<a style=\"font-size: inherit;background-color: initial\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thearda.com\/Timeline\/events\/event_266.asp\">Concilio Vaticano II<\/a><span style=\"font-size: inherit;background-color: initial;color: #515151\">, servendo nella Commissione Centrale Preparatoria e nella Commissione Tecnico-Organizzativa. Fu re del Regno Unito di Gran Bretagna e Irlanda e imperatore dell'India dal 22 gennaio 1901 fino alla sua morte nel 1910.
