She is the first woman to represent the seat since its creation in 1974 and the only MP from the area to have served as a Government Minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her Government roles have included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Assistant Government Whip (2018\u20132019)<\/strong> under Theresa May<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Parliamentary Private Secretary<\/strong> at BEIS and the Department for International Development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Parliamentary Under Secretary of State<\/strong> at the Ministry of Justice (appointed by Boris Johnson)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Parliamentary Under Secretary of State<\/strong> at the Foreign, Commonwealth &amp; Development Office after the 2019 election<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rail Minister and Minister of State<\/strong> at the Department for Transport (2021)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Government Chief Whip<\/strong> under Liz Truss, becoming the first female Conservative to hold the role, attending Cabinet, and joining the Privy Council<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In November 2024, she returned to the frontbench as <strong>Shadow Minister of State<\/strong> at the FCDO under Kemi Badenoch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond ministerial roles, Wendy has long supported volunteering, social action, and community projects. She previously served as <strong>vice-chairman of the Conservative Party<\/strong> with responsibility for social action and co-led <strong>Project Umubano<\/strong>, delivering international development work in Rwanda, Burundi, and Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She has a strong interest in defence, completing the <strong>Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme<\/strong>, and in the <strong>British Overseas Territories<\/strong>, Crown Dependencies, and the Commonwealth. Originally elected as a Conservative MP, he defected to Reform UK on January 18, 2026.  The Consulate of San Marino in London recognises his merits in establishing the APPG and chairing the group for almost 6 years (2020-2026).
